Seasonal Eating

Eating seasonally not only makes sense but is more often than not better for your pocket. By eating food when it is truly in season means you are eating it when it is at its best and tastes how it should - seasonal food tends to be local and therefore hasn't flown hundreds of miles to reach your dinner plate. Try our seasonal suggestions and eat what you should be eating this month.

We are hoping (weather permitting) to have the first of our famous asparagus in the shop next weekend.  Asparagus is very particular about the conditions that it will grow in.  In the right conditions (a steady 10 degrees) an asparagus spear can grow up to 10 inches in 24 hours.  Our notoriously fickle British climate means that forecasting it's first harvest is often difficult.

We are currently getting some wonderful vegetables from one of our Estate farmers - Alan Houson.  Fresh from the fields this week we will have purple sprouting broccoli, curly kale, baby leeks and dirty parsnips.  Perfect to go with the spring lambs our butchers are expecting this week.
