Winter Tree Identification Session & Tree Myth and Folklore Walk
Hawarden Estate is teeming with wildlife, and this includes a load of incredible trees. By the end of this event you will have got to grips with some of our countrysides common trees and perhaps a few unusual species too.
Join local nature expert Dave Winnard for a wintery morning, and explore of some of the tree species that occur on Hawarden Estate. You will learn how to identify them in winter. and will explore some of the mythology and folklore around these remarkable plants. You will walk through the grounds of the estate and learn about the different species as well as looking at their buds - a key feature for identifying trees in winter, their bark and any other features so we will know our Oaks from our Beech, our Sweet Chestnut from our Birch. You will also be collecting some twigs and buds whilst out on our walk to bring back with us to compare them all at the end over a hot drink.
This Walled Garden School session will be a leisurely stroll through the grounds of the Hawarden Estate.
